Stronger together! Proudly Canadian, Proudly Local

Stronger together! Proudly Canadian, Proudly Local

February 4, 2025

Dear valued customers,

A lot is happening in the US at the moment and I wanted to talk about how we are planning to mitigate any concerns that have arisen in the grocery market.

It’s a funny feeling to have to say all this really. Edible Island is Canadian to the core. Comox Valley founded and 45 years later, still Comox Valley owned. We always have, and always will focus on sources close to our community, the Comox Valley. Our next priority is BC grown and made, then Canadian grown and made.

With the specialty food market also thriving across the border and lack of seasonal produce available locally in the winter months, we also import some items from the US. They have exceptional year-round organic farming and we have been lucky to have easy access for so many years.

Some of these products imported from the US may have Canadian substitutes, some may not.

Here's what we're doing.

Our team is currently working to expand our existing Canadian-made identifiers. We will highlight the Canadian-made products with shelf signage.

Our flyers and email newsletters already use symbols ‘Made in Canada’ or a Canadian flag symbol. This will continue.

Rest assured, we will take this country-of-origin identification practice even further and we intend to put up even more signage in the store to help you quickly and easily pick Canadian made brands.

Tariff or no tariff, we are always proud to be able to support Canadian companies, and we will use the current situation to help them shine and gain even more recognition for the value they bring to each of us.

We appreciate this community for always shopping thoughtfully, for supporting locally grown and made, and we look forward to making this looming tariff situation as positive and easy to navigate as possible.

Should you have any questions, concerns or feedback at any time, please reach out to me. I'm here for you!
